THE FOUNDER :
RAYMOND BROUSSEAU
Having a deep passion for Inuit art for 50 years, Raymond Brousseau acquired his first piece of sculpture in 1956 at the age of 18. Since then, he has never ceased to collect, to the point of inaugurating his first gallery in 1974 and creating his first private museum in 1999, the ¨Brousseau Inuit Art Museum¨ in Old Quebec.
For over 50 years his goal has been the same, to make this exceptional art known in Quebec and abroad. The ¨Brousseau Inuit Art Museum¨ has introduced thousands of people to this art and has organized important travelling exhibits in Europe.
The French President, Jacques Chirac, recognized the importance of this collection and in the efforts of the Director in creating the exhibits, by personally inaugurating the exhibit ¨Inuit, when words take shape¨ at the Museum of Man in 2003, and in naming Raymond Brousseau to the French ¨Knight of the Order of Merit ¨ in 2005.
The Prime Minister of Quebec, Jean Charest, promoted Mr. Brousseau with the title of « Knight of the National Order of Quebec » en 2008.
